Antique teapots from Morocco, traditionally handmade, are a gem on your buffet or in an oriental-style corner of the house. This handmade product reflects the art of metalworking, which dominates northern Africa so perfectly, in a stylish jug. Even the darkest corner exudes a soft shimmer that only noble metals and valuable workmanship can do. In addition to the precious material and work, love, perseverance and ancient knowledge are always in every teapot from Morocco.

Craftsmanship and tradition

The whole magic of 1000 and one night seems to be reflected in this teapot. The secret lies in the production, which goes back to original techniques. Out of countless and evenly executed hammer blows, a patiently hand-crafted jug is created. The teapot is still made entirely of metal. Later, rolling mills supplied the starting material, which revolutionized the manufacturing process: the shapes were now cut out. Pans made from rolled plates sometimes have a thin wall and are therefore more susceptible to impact and other signs of wear. Compared to this, the historical artisan is almost wasteful with the metal and largely dispenses with soldering. The artisan also spends more time on the antique teapot. Mass production cannot be achieved in this way.

Each teapot is unique

For this reason, each piece is unique, which differs in detail from similar teapots and bears the signature of the artist. Fine, driven lines and filigree details come together in perfect harmony. Despite the silver appearance, it is brass, which is silvered after the mechanical processing. The antique teapots are suitable for decorative purposes and, together with shapely tea glasses, form an attractive ensemble for table and room decoration.

Preparing tea in Morocco

Moroccan peppermint tea – tea preparation in Morocco

The Moroccan national drink is the delicious and sweet peppermint tea that is served every time you meet friends or relatives in the Maghreb countries. Guests in Morocco are generally welcomed with Moroccan mint tea. But also at the end of a business and of course for all family celebrations, Moroccan tea is prepared and offered as a special ritual.

Moroccan tea ceremony – the preparation of tea
First you put a tablespoon of green tea in a Moroccan jug with a capacity of approx. 400 ml and pour a little water over it. Then this brew is brought to a boil on a gas flame. One does not use this brew, but tilts it away. It is only used to ensure that the mint tea does not taste too bitter. A small bunch of freshly picked Moroccan mint is now added to the tea leaves remaining in the pot. The jug is filled to the brim with water and heated on an open fire for 1-2 minutes until the water begins to boil. After the mixture has been thoroughly mixed, you take the teapot from the fire and add a lot of sugar, usually in the form of a stick.

Then the pouring ceremony can begin. The host places the colorful or ornate tea glasses in a circle on a traditional tea tray. It is round, usually stands on small feet and is lovingly decorated with ornaments. The teapot is held at a height of approx. 30 to 40 cm and the glasses are filled with a very thin stream of tea. The tea from the tea glasses now comes back into the pot and this process is repeated up to 5 times. Only then has a delicious blend of aromatic tea and sugar foam been created. The sweeter the tea, the more welcome the guest is!

A special ritual is the tea ceremony. It is not for nothing that it is the national drink in Morocco.

It is valued for its thirst-quenching effect and invigorating freshness.

In addition, the Moroccan “nano mint”, of which the Moroccan mint (Mentha spicata Morocco) belongs. In addition to the tea culture, the mint is also used as a herb in the kitchen and in the form of dried bushes it is used to protect against insects.

The basis is the green tea variety. Various herbs are then added to this basic ingredient. The most popular and best known is probably the Moroccan mint – also called nano mint. Lemon balm, thyme, sage and wormwood are also popular.
